Japanese Kutani Porcelain Figure of Komainu or Lion Dog

Japanese porcelain artistically designed Kutani figure of
a mystical creature KOMAINU or Lion-Dog of Buddha.
This creature Komainu stands with open mouth and relies with two paws
on Lucky Mallet which adorned with flowers ornament and gilding
and with silk rope with two tassels..
At the ancient time Japanese people believed that KOMAINU has the
power to repel evils, and these creatures images are very
popular in temples as well as in houses and offices.
Komainu which holds Lucky Mallet also is a good wishes symbol
for prosperity particularly at New Year’s time.
The figure is artistically modeled, big and heavy and it
has Kutani artist sign on base.
