Japanese Antique Ko-Kutani Porcelain Vase iwith Samurai
scene, Meiji era
Japanese antique porcelain vase with hand painting depicting
a samurai warrior lord on horseback, dressed in full combat suit and
with a quiver full of arrows on his back. Samurai
warrior holds
a large bow in his hand and jumps out of the thickets to
meet the enemy. Behind the samurai warrior lord are
two of his squires under an old pine tree. One of them holds
a banner with the family crest of the samurai warrior, and
the second holds a spear in his hands.
The elegant, elongated body of the vase is decorated with
two relief handles in the form of gilded figures of Komainu-mythical
creatures that guard against evil spirits.
On the vase's base is the author's seal. The bell neck and
base of the vase are decorated with ornaments.
About 1880's, Meiji period
Excellent condition with no damage.
