Japanese antique Hakata figurine of the founder of Japanese Tea Ceremony Sen no Rikyu (1522—1591)  a 16th century influential tea master who perfected the Chanoyu or Way of Tea.
He is the most well-known—and still revered—historical figure in tea ceremony. The principles he set forward—harmony, respect, purity and tranquility are still central to tea ceremony.  
Sen no Rikyu served two historically important figures, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, eventually being forced to commit ritual suicide - Seppuku by Hideyoshi.
He sits before a ceramic tea cup dressed in zen style kimono with dark blue obi belt and dark blue kimono jacket and with monk's head scarf on his head.  Purple silk fabric for tea ceremony attached to his belt.  He slightly smiles and talked considerably with somebody.

Very good conditional according to age, with no damage and  signed by famous Japanese artist Kawasaki Torao on figurine's base.
