Japanese Noh Theatre Character with mask of Ko-Omote
Finely modeled vintage Japanese Hakata clay figurine with
a mask depicts a young beauty called Ko-Omote
from Noh Theatre play.
She is kneeling on a brook's bank and holds a hand-painted
folding fan in her hands. Ko-Omote dressed
with wonderfully rendered upper apricot colored outer kimono
with chrysanthemum motif and with red lining and with silver
under-kimono with cherry blossom and also numerous other
under-kimonos. Traditional Japanese white socks are on her
feet. On actor's head is a black long hair-wig adorned
with colorful band and the actor's mask is shown a
young beauty of Heian era with her eyebrows drawing
so high on her forehead as it was fashionable in those old
times and her teeth covered with colored with black lacquer
as a sign of marriage..
Artist's sign and stamp are on a base of the figurine.
Excellent condition with no damage.
